PRR N5 Caboose Build Number
Posted by Trainman440 on Sunday, June 13, 2021 11:22 AM

Hi, I tried searching all over the internet with no luck, but how many N5 cabooses did PRR produce?

All I could find is Kohls & Co simply saying it was the most built caboose.

I found that they made 200 N5c cabooses in 1942 (although one source said 169), and 199 N8 cabooses in 1950.

Just trying to figure out if I should be investing in N5 or N5c cabooses.

PS If I were modeling 1946, to my knowledge, cabooses should be painted all FCC with no black right? When did the black roofs (tar) start appearing?

Thanks,

Charles

www.prrths.org  The summer 2020 issue of "The Keystone Modeler" has an article devoting at least five pages, including photos, to the N5 series of cars and modeling them.  TKM back issues are listed and may include more info.  Investigate-as is so popular these days, ITS FREE!

Ah thanks, yea Ive been reading keystone modeler for a while now, their reviews are extremely detailed. Im disappointed in not thinking of googling a bowser b5 review before asking on these forums as a last ditch effort haha

Thanks!

Charles
