DSS&A Depot in Houghton, Need Photograph
Posted by JPD on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 9:45 AM

I am writing a genealogical report concerning an ancestor who worked for the Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic (DSS&A) Railroad. For this report I am looking for a photograph of the DSS&A (also Mineral Range Railroad) depot hopefully from the period when trains were still running in Houghton.

This building has been saved and restored. It is now a small business office. I have photographs the way it looks now, but I am hoping for something older, say from before 1960. The books and articles I have concerning the DSS&A lack good photographs of this depot.

I appreciate your help.

A brief Google Images search came up with some candidates of which one is here

The Soo Line historical society basically doubles as the DSS&A historical society.  Have you tried asking their archives?

And their magazine has had at least two articles on Houghton

Vol 9 #2 April 1987     Article on Houghton in general

Vol. 14 #3 July 1992.  Specific article on the depot

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

DSchmitt

Thanks DSchmitt, the first photograph is exactly what I am looking for. I should have thought of checking Pasty.com, glad you did.
