Since I lived in New Orleans, I should know this, but I can't think of anything.

The Pan-American was a first class train operated by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad from 1921 to 1971. Through the mid-'20s and until 1933 the train was All Pullman.

The Pan-American inspired several songs:

• "Pan-American Blues" (1926) by DeFord Bailey
• "The Pan-American" (1948) by Hank Williams
  
• "Pan-American Boogie" (1949) by the Delmore Brothers
  

"Pan-American Blues" was one of two "railroad" songs recorded by DeFord Bailey (the other being "Dixie Flyer Blues", so-named for a train of the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad). Bailey saw the Pan-American frequently at Nashville's Union Station in the 1920s, but the inspiration for name came from one of his foster sisters, who noted that "it was the fastest around." Bailey, with his harmonica, imitated the sound of the Pan-American's whistle and it quickly became one of his most-requested performances at the Grand Ole Opry and elsewhere.

Out of Brakie's list I've only ridden on The Champion. Had a delicious French Toast breakfast in the full dining car

Ed, Veron Delhart sang a song about the wreck of the Royal Palm. The Ponch De Leon and the Royal Palm collided on December 23, 1926.

Sorta.  But it's more fun to let Ed & co. mention all sorts of interesting detail before closing a list out. 

Is the Dakota Express the one on GN, the one on C&NW, or the one on the Soo?

Likewise is it the PRR/RF&P/ACL Palmetto, the same with SCL after the merger, or the Amtrak train that's the 'little Silver Palm'?

Is it the IC New Orleans Special, or the C&EI/L&N one, or the Southern out of Cincinnati?

Gateway is postwar NYC, Cleveland -St.Louis

While doing some research I couldn't find the Gateway, Dakota Express, and New Orleans Special. I thought the Gateway might be M&StL but it wasn't. Their train was The North Star Limited and smaller unnamed trains. 

Royal Palm and Ponce de Leon are Southern.
