I am having bear of a time researching the SP's 44 seat coaches on the Golden State. Do any of ya know which way the vestibules faced on this train for the 44 seat coach. Thanks Gents.

When I rode on it in 1949 the seats faced forward.Mel My Model Railroad http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/ Bakersfield, California I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.

I'm not particularly aware of any railroads that turned coaches or chair cars to orient the vestibules in any one direction. Sometimes if a train had a good deal of short-run coach passengers they liked to run with two vestibules paired so one trainman could board both cars from one point.
Otherwise it wouldn't matter. The coach seats rotated to face either end of the car or could be grouped two facing if a family travelling together wanted to sit that way.

Most photos of the Golden State I've seen had cars turned in either direction.
Good Luck, Ed
In the late 40's to early 50's, the front of the train behind the head-end cars had at least three leg rest 44 seat coaches with a coffee shop lounge in between them. The last coach in the group of 3 went from Los Angeles to Kansas City on the GS, then placed on the Twin Rocket from KC to Minneapolis.
I'm sure all chair cars on the GS ran with the seats facing fowards.
