PRR Passenger Car Paint Schemes
Posted by garya on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 8:27 PM

I have a quick question: what is the difference between pre-war and post-war PRR passenger car paint schemes?

So are these cars pre- or post-?  I'm guessing post, but I'm not certain...

Yes, Post-War. This print is dated 8-21-1947

Of course, as any railroad with such a huge and varied fleet, there were variables, such as the Futura lettering, Fleet of Modernism, and the change from gold leaf to dulux gold to buff lettering.

Entire books have been written on the subject and there is still some points left to question. PULLMAN lettered cars did not have stripes (generally).

Good Luck, Ed

Thanks Ed. I would prefer prewar, so I let these pass. I notice the trucks seem to be olive on Prewar, and there is no gold stripe. I have trouble telling the lettering apart, though.

If you find some at a reasonable price, the MTH Pennsylvania heavyweight cars are an excellent model, Gary.

Their selection isn't all that great, but they run beautifully and are very well detailed.

Thanks Ed. Still a little rich for my blood. I've managed to get a few Bachmann Spectrum, Walthers, and Rivarossi cars for cheap. I just need something for my Bowser K4 and E6 to pull.
