Hello, all.
On a recent trip to to visit my girlfriend's family in Utica, NY, I noticed a railroad paralleling Route 12. I learned that it was the Utica Branch of the NYSW. Having learned a little about the railroad, I'd like to represent it on my 1970 C&O Piedmont Subdivision layout. According to my ORER, the NYSW had a frieght car fleet of 26 boxcars, 24 of them the green 40' Susie-Q boxcars. I've done some searching online, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information out there. I did find 5 or so photos, but nothing about who built the cars, what type of roof they had, etc. Does anyone have any information that they'd be willing to share?
Thanks,Larry
Well I was able to find a few pictures anyway, that's a start....

...and their hysterical society:

Using the steam era freight car site, I found this information.
A3
These were 40' Pullman Standard Boxcars, with their proprietary roof and ends and equipped witha 6' 5 panel Superior Door.
Twentyfive of these cars were eventually sold to Monon and repainted.

Rule 1: This is my railroad.
Rule 2: I make the rules.
Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!
Sorry wrong info right rr wrong type of boxcar
won't happen again
Rick,
Thanks for the info, but these aren't the cars I was looking for (OK, sorry for the lame Star Wars reference).
The 400-series cars were - as you found - PS-1's that NYSW purchased in the late 1940's. In the early 60's, the railroad sold all but two of them (401 and 402) to the Monon. To replace them, they purchased a group of 40' boxcars from the Lehigh Valley (oddly, the replacement cars were built in 1926, which made them significantly older than the cars they replaced - I don't get that decision). Those cars were numbered in the 500-series and many of them were repainted into the green Susie-Q scheme. Those are the ones I'm interested in. I've contacted both the NYSW and LV Historical Societies, but haven't heard back from them yet.
Best,Larry

Larry I have a Bev-Bel 40' box car NYSW "Susie Q" It's dark green with black ends
If you can find it any where the part number is 327-21 released in 1999
there is a site mainline model miniatures that has photos
But it is an incorrect car, Bev-Bel used Athearn's 1937 AAR Modified Car body to those cars in place of the PS-1 car that is correct.
