I am looking for information about the PH&D RR from back in the 40's through the 80's. Specifically pictures of or with the crew of the trains. The reason is my Grandfather on my mothers side worked on the PH&D all his life, but apparently he was camera shy as I cant find any pictures of him except for one. His name was Merle Sari and I was told he was a conductor of a freight train when he retired. If anyone has pictures of the PH&D workers that they can post I would be most interested in seeing them. I have attached a photo in hopes someone may recognize him? I would like to build a model of his train with engine and caboose if I can find pictures of them. I have tried the historical society in Port Huron with no luck,or maybe I just haven't talked to the rite person?

Terry, I'm a member of the PH&D historical society and their newsletter "The Marker Light" has had some historical photos. Also check face book for posts by Sandy Duffy his family once owned the rr and he worked on it so he probably remembers a lot of the old timers.

I have heard of the Duffy family, but havent been in contact with them. When I contacted the PH&D historical society the person I coresponded with suggested I call Mr. Duffy and also wanted me to join the society witch I couldnt due to low funds and didnt feel rite doing that not being a member. My wife was forced into early retirement a few weeks ago so untill we get used to living on SS I have a feeling things will be tight for a while? After we get things straightened out I may join the society?
I was told my grandfather started working for the RR when he was 14 and lost four fingers on one hand in a coupler accdent (ouch) so maybe that is something some of his coworkers would remember?
I know I should get a FB account but I hear about all the "Drama" that goes on and I can do without that in my life. I guess I can allways close the account if it turns into a problem?

You should look up any and all libraries along the railroad's old right of way, as well the library in the state capitol. If it works anything like the ones here in Colorado, at least some of them should have digitzed collections of historic photos you can access on their websites. And, the library in the capitol would probably be your best bet. A good example of this theory would be the Denver library here in Colorado. I'm a big Colorado Midland fan, and I've found more Midland photos on the Denver library page than I have on the site for Colorado Springs, even though the Midland ran out of Colorado Springs and never built a line to Denver. Good hunting. I hope you find what you're looking for.

I did find another picture of my grandfather standing in front of engine number 52, he is second from the left.
This is the caption that was with the picture, I see he is a breakman at this point, I was born three years later.

If I had to guess, I believe you may still be in a probationary period. All new posters to the forum go through a probationary period where your posts are checked before they are published. I think it keeps out spam accounts.
