This one is a bit odd but here goes: During the 1970s, how were freight car wheels delivered to shops? Were flat cars used or were semi-trucks being used at that point. I had looked at the Tichy model but I am not sure it that would still be accurate. The info suggested that those cars were phased out in the 1970's. As usual, any information would be most appriciated.
I still them on flat bed semi trucks.

Looks to me like this idea could be accomplished with a GSC flat car. (More appropriate for my era.) One would use the rails and modifying them with a stop for the wheels.
i Just happened to watch a fairly recent railfan video on YouTube with a CN train, and as it rolled by, one of the cars was a flat car loaded with wheels.

I was in Houston for work this week, and I saw flat car loaded with wheels go by. I was too slow with my phone to take a picture, though.
