Last Run for the PRR E8s?
Posted by gmpullman on Saturday, February 17, 2018 8:05 PM

Possibly the last run for Bennett Levin's famous pair of PRR E8s 5711, and 5809, is scheduled to take place on May 9th to the 13th between Philadelphia, and Altoona, Pennsylvania for the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical and Historical Society annual meeting:

It would appear that upgrades to PTC would be prohibitive on these venerable E units. I'll be sorry to see them retired...

Regards, Ed

Thanks for posting the note Ed.

They ran through near me on the WNYP former Erie RR line several years back, but of course, I was out of town that day... So I missed them.

Sure would be a shame to not see these beauties run still.

I have been pulled across the country by UP E's.

And I have been behind RF&P E's at well over 100 mph.

And I have admired GN E7's in simplified, doing what needs doing.

My best to the Pennsy E's,

Ed
