Official Railway Equipment Register DVDs
Posted by restorator on Sunday, February 11, 2018 10:05 AM

Does anyone have one of these dvds with a variety of ORER's on them? If you have seen one I want to verify they are what they are supposed to be before pruchasing. Thanks for any help.

I don't have one.

I used the link and looked at the sample pages.  They were borderline readable.  I think they should have made better scans.  So, I think they are what they say they are.  But that the scan quality is far from the best.

If I were going to buy something like that, I would go with the Westerfield version (which I also have not seen):

At $23 each, they're a lot more expensive, though.  And probably a lot better scan.

Or, you can get the real ones on Ebay.  At about the same price.  I've been collecting mine for years, and have no need for the digital versions.  At this time.

Interesting product. He appears to sell a lot of similar items--official guides, etc. And his feedback is good, including people who say things like "great item".... And I found he also has a website where he sells this stuff. Google "taplines" and "equipment register" and you'll find it. He has some single issue items for less ($12.00) if you wanted to try it for less money. Also, the website prices look a little cheaper than on eek-bay.

I have several CDs from this outfit. They are a handy reference. You can copy the .pdf file to your hard drive for easier access. You can use all the features of the Adobe pdf, like print individual pages or zoom and print the zoomed view.

I can check which individual disks I have but they aren't in front of me at the moment. I think I got a Car Builders Cyclopedia, an Official Passenger Car Register (three or four issues on one disk) and several Freight Car registers.

The images are a pretty decent resolution, maybe a few pages are scanned crooked and a few pages may have a crease or two, but these were scanned from pretty old books.

I hope he offers some Locomotive Cyclopedias in the future.

Let me know if you need more info.

Thank You, Ed

I have one of the ORERs specific to my modelling era.  I found it useful and the cost very reasonable.

Received ORER Collection today.  Copied to my computer and browsed.  Good product. As advertised.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.
