20th Century Interior Colors
Posted by The Jet Clipper on Monday, September 11, 2017 10:44 PM

After getting some of the Walthers cars, I want to paint the interiors. Any references? I want these to 'pop' when I stick lights in them!

Hi, Jet Clipper

A short discussion here...

Out of the many "Century" books I have the one by Karl R. Zimmerman is perhaps one of the most informative with lots of color photos. I have seen it range in price in the used book market from $15 to $150!

ISBN: 0-7603-1422-5

A close runner-up is the Richard J. Cook book with lots of information and photos but fewer in color.

ISBN: 1-883069-02-6

Of course, any of the books by the NYC photographer, Ed Nowak, make a handy reference for New York Central devotees. Book Two, in particular, has many color interior photos.

ISBN: 1-878887-17-3

Good Luck, Ed

Maybe NOW I'll finally get around to scanning that 1948 Century booklet (that I mentioned in the earlier thread) I have.

Here are a few of the artist's renderings from the booklet I mentioned.

Although there may be slight variations since these were produced in an artist's studio, I recall being in some of the cars, and a few made it into the Penn-Central era with few interior changes, and the colors depicted here are pretty close.

Regards, Ed
