Amtrak Phase 1 Paint
Posted by The Jet Clipper on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 7:18 PM

Hello,

So, one thing that I want to model other than my railroad is rainbow-era Amtrak (the best Amtrak). I've been wanting to slap together an E or F unit in the good ol' Phase I scheme, which is my favorite. But, I can't seem to pinpoint the exact red used on the nose, so does anybody know a good red to use?

Hi Jet Clipper,

Amtrak's Phase 1 Scheme was the very first scheme used by the railroad, it looked like this;

  " width="50" height="100" />

and there's this one with a lighter shade of red;

  " width="50" height="100" />

Amtrak used this Scheme from 1971 until about 1979 or 1980. So F7's or E8's are correct for a rainbow train that was common during the early years.

If you model Amtrak in 1973, You can use SDP40F's in the "Arrow Scheme" to pull your train.

Floquil Amtrack Red!

Rule 1: This is my railroad.

Rule 2: I make the rules.

Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!
