GTW USRA Rebuilt Boxcars
Posted by Guy Papillon on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 5:23 PM

In 1939, GTW rebuilt some USRA Wood Boxcars into steel side boxcars know as the 470000 series (No. 470250 to 470749). Were those boxcars rebuilt from Single Sheathed USRA Boxcars with steel underframe or from Double Sheathed USRA Boxcars with Fishbelly underframe?

Those GTW cars were rebuilds of doublesheathed USRA cars, and would have the fishbelly underframe.

I had to go check mine, and and discovered that I have one correct car (fishbelly underframe), but mis-numbered as a 460000 series car (a Sylvan kit),  and one numbered in the 470000 series, built from a Tichy kit, with a straight underframe.  Geez!  More work to re-do! Bang HeadSmile, Wink & Grin

Thank you Wayne,

it seems that I will have to kit bash my own Tichy kit.
