The Model Railroader's Guide To Coal Railroading Page 6-7 Trestle Identification
Posted by NWP SWP on Sunday, April 2, 2017 12:12 PM

Hi I am trying to find out where the trestle in the pictures on page 6 and 7 in The Model Railroader's Guide To Coal Railroading is located. I have included a link to a Amazon "Look Inside!" preview for those who do not have the book.

Barrett, West Virginia.

In the shadows where the red arrow is pointing.

Unfortunately, Google Street View hasn't hit Cow Creek Road just yet.

Have Fun, Ed

By the way, the Walthers  933-3147 trestle kit would make a pretty good representation of this trestle. I have one on my layout and it makes a pretty nice addition.

The kit includes more bents and parts than the box photo shows.

Just a question guys, maybe I'm not looking at this right, but trestle on pages 6 & 7, show train over road, and the google maps looks like road over train.  Just making sure I'm seeing this right.  Smile, Wink & Grin

The 'road' is a drawing of where the road goes as it's covered by trees.

I asked NASA to make another fly-over on a sunnier day. Smile

Now you can make out the trestle a little better. This is from Zoom Earth.

The location links don't work, but the best view can be had with Bing Maps. Just search for Cow Creek Rd, Barrett, WV. Then switch to Bird's Eye view, and turn off the labels. Rotate around so you look South (default looks North) and there is a very nice view of the trestle.

The bird's eye views come in handy in out of the way places where street view cars haven't run.

Thanks I just did and it looked like sat view I think I may have missed something. I contacted the C&O Historical Society to see if they have any photos or drawings of it.

I looked at the Bling view, too. Didn't really see much improvement? I must be missing something, too.
