Hello all!!!

I have one Genesis 2-8-2 mikado but i noticed that the front coupler is not operating so, i would like to take off the dummy coupler and put one operating coupler in teh front pilot, the question is:

Does anybody already change the front cupler of the Genesis 2-8-2?

And explain us how did this job???

Gracias

I add a working Kadee in front of my Athearn 2-8-2s, but it's not self-centering. I just pull out the dummy coupler, file the sides of the Kadee #58 to fit, slide it into the coupler draft gear box, and secure it with a nylon washer and a 2-56 screw. It might not be elegant, but it works!

Buenas dias, Esteban,
Out of curiosity, I went to the conversion page at Kadee's Web site, scrolled down to the Athern "Genesis" 2-8-2, and found that they suggest a # 36. Here's a link to the .pdf file for the conversion:

I have not done it myself, since a 2-8-2 is too modern for my taste, but it looks as though you will have centering if you follow their suggestion.

Gracias for the tips and the help for this inquiry, and i would like to tell to the forum about a modification that I made in the tender of this locomotive. Since in the "Nacionales de Mexico" (the National Railways of Mexico), almost steam locomotives were "oil burned" and the Genesis Tender is from "coal-burned" locomotive so i modified the tender to a Oil-burned locomotive, I put handrails and a oil filler for the modification.

Saludos y Gracias
