Anybody know the color of the UP Cheyenne 650 coal bunker
Posted by DAVID FORTNEY on Monday, May 16, 2016 6:15 PM

I looked online and could not find one picture of the coal bunker. I am assuming it was mostly grey with allot of soot.

Pulling out the black and white print taken with an Argus Super 75 camera in 1957 when I was 12 it sure looks black to me as does the Big Boy under it.

One photo of the sand tank side of the bunker seems to show that the siding was originally unpainted galvanized steel, and the black color is the result of the passage of many locomotives.  The bottom portion of the sand tank is also blackened, but the top is apparently painted with aluminum paint.
