Hey Folks,
I am in the process of trying to make my waybills look more realistic and I noticed that prototype waybills have assigned numbers next to the Railroads name. For instance, Pennsylvania Railroad is 620, Southern Pacific is 721. Is there a list of the number each railroad was assigned, and if there is where can I find it? As always, thanks for any assistance given.

It's called Rule 260 number. Every railroad is assigned one by the AAR. They appear in some railroad publications, like the Official Railway Equipment Register (ORER). The link provided has a current listing.

I was lucky to find an AAR published listing of Railroads with their Rule 260 numbers and reporting marks and railroad interchange points and codes for 1978 at a train show. The information is out there, but most modelers probably concentrate more on reporting marks. Your best bet would be finding an old ORER for the era being modeled.

Thanks Jeff! I have the NMRA's 1953 ORER reprint, but it is buried in storage. Any chance someone with access to a copy could look up the number for the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines (PRSL)? Thanks!
