Can anyone tell me which railroads this car is correct for? Here's the result of a search on Walthers' site, showing every paint job they did on it in both the Rolling Stock and Proto series. I almost bought one at a show last weekend, but I couldn't pull the trigger without knowing if it was correct.
A quick look shows P-S 10-5's owned by PRR, NYC, B&O, and AT&SF. These were Pullman Plan 4072A through F, built in the late 1930's through early 1940's. Pullman pool cars of this plan were used on the Overland trains and CRI&P and S.P., but I don't have info as to their paint schemes. I.C. bought some of the plan 4072 cars from the NYC in 1958. There may have been other owners. What road(s) are of interest to you?
Tom
SP's 10-5's were numbered 100-109. They were built for the LARK. They were around from about 1940 to 1967. I believe that number series was later used for business cars.
They were delivered in a two-tone grey scheme. I think they were later done up in the red-stripe-on-silver scheme.

Thanks for the replies, everybody. I will check out that keystone crossings site.
What I'm actually interested in is cars that might have been borrowed or substituted on the California Zephyr, so that would especially be PRR and NYC, but I know the Burlington often added anything they could get in Chicago for extra peak capacity. I suppose WP probably borrowed SP cars on their end too.
I recently bought a Great Northern 10-6 for this purpose, only to find out that GN didn't have 10-6s. Now I'm researching things before I buy them.
David,
I don't know the CZ that well, but, GENERALLY, railroads didn't run other road's passenger cars on their first line trains. I am, though, sorta recalling a Pennsy car on the CZ, though i believe it's still a CZ car.
For example, the GN never (never is such a harsh word) ran such cars on the Empire Builder. But they did run them on their secondary transcon train, the Western Star. I'm looking at a shot of the Star with a C&O, a Pennsy, and a greyish somethin' in the otherwise GN consist.
I think the same holds for the UP's City of Portland--no foreign cars. But on the secondary Portland Rose--I think occasionally so.
That said, I like your attitude!
It is surprizing how much equipment got shuffeled around from railroad to railroad.
I remember in the mid 1960s the Illinois Central would lease two dome-sleepers for use on the City Of Miami from the N-Ps North Coast Limited and would completely repaint them each fall, then repaint them to NP colors again in the spring!
Fun Stuff... Ed
Eastern cars of the B&O and (I think) NYC also ran through Chicago and on to the West coast on the Santa Fe. There were also a number of run-throughs using the St. Louis gateway for B&O and PRR service between Eastern cities and cities on the MoPac, T&P, SL-SF, and M-K-T. I'm sure 10-5's were involved in these services at certain times.

Ed,
There is plenty of evidence that the strict "no foreign cars" policy on the CZ when it was launched was violated almost immediately. NYC and PRR had through service to New York on alternating days; PRR, as you said, owned one of the CZ cars (Silver Rapids) and NYC leased some of the CZ cars for that purpose. Cars *must* have occasionally been bad ordered in New York and the host's own cars substituted for them. Also, they leased other cars for extra summer capacity, and in later years tours would be booked that involved multiple cars running on the CZ.
Still, I don't want to run just anything, I want to use cars that really would have been used, which is complicated by the fact that the only power I have for the train is CB&Q F3s, which were taken out of CZ service in 1955.
That said, I like your attitude! Ed
Thanks!
David
