Capacity of a Cattle Car
Posted by RicZ on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 12:37 PM

What would have been a standard load for a 40 ft stock car carrying cattle to market?  Just wondering how many stock cars I need to position at the local pens in 1959.

Rick,
I did a quick Google search and found a 1952 ATSF document. It lists 35 cattle(750 lbs), or 42 cattle(500 lbs) suggested for shipper loading.

Sounds like I had better find some more cattle. The Walthers Cornerstone set is no longer available -even on eBay.

Give it time Ric. Took me a year before I saw something I was looking for on EBay. But it finally got there. Thats one good thing about EBay, its the LHS that stocks everything, eventually.
