NYC Pacemaker caboose
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, October 22, 2004 12:11 AM
I am trying to find some prototype photos of the NYC Pacemaker caboose. I am trying to scratchbuild one in N scale. I have one photo from the caboose nut site, and have googled, but can't find anything else on this except for model railroad cars, not the prototype photos - Can anyone help me on this? Thanks!

Have you looked at the book ' Cabooses of the New Haven and New York Central Railroads: Caboose Data Book No. 1? '

You might find a copy to borrow through a local chapter of the NRHS. The Central NY chapter has a copy for members' use.

The five Pacemaker cars were part of the 20100 series. These were very long (almost 42 feet) cabooses because they were converted from wood boxcars. They resemble a stretched version of the standard NYC car, including the low cupola, but they have a prominent side sill. David Sweetland's NYC color guide has a good photo of one of the cars, but it's in oxide red, now Pacemaker red and gray.
