The Chicago & North Western Historical Society has a quarterly magazine, North Western Lines, that has a column of modeling "news" -- new products. NW Lines used to print a modeling article from time to time, but for the most part the modeling articles (which deal with the C&NW but also lines it acquired such as the Chicago Great Western, Minneapolis & St Louis, and others) are now online on the Society's website. http://www.cnwhs.org/
You can see Modeling amoung the menu items. http://www.cnwhs.org/modeling.htm The PDF downloads are free and you do not have to be a CNWHS member to view them or print them out.

ndbprrThe PRRT&HS puts out the Keystone Modeler with lots of good stuff. What other historical societies publish similar information for modelers? Be kind of helpful to have a comprehensive list here. Thank you.
Pretty much all of the historical societies have publications with "good stuff". Some are gooder than others, but......
So it would seem that the comprehensive list you speak of would really be a list of all the historical societies. And I expect that almost all railroad historical societies have an online site. So anyone interested in the Squashtooth Fibrous and Western could do a search for that phrase plus "historical" and find out whether that railroad has an HS. And anyone not interested wouldn't need to know. Or care.
That said, if you want to compile a list of historical societies and post it here, I can't see any reason not to.

MR used to publish a list of RR historical societies every year, and it was a LONG list. Too bad they don't do that any more.
The New York Central System Historical Society does a quarterly online magazine just for model railroaders, the "NYCentral Modeller".

Just to add to Stix links above, the NYCSHS has made some great strides in the past 5+ years to become more accommodating to the modeler and the modeling industry as a whole; much like what the PRRT&HS has done well for some time now. It's no surprise that the ranks are rapidly thinning out of those who worked on and for those mighty Fallen Flags. In order to keep the memory alive, the modeler has become the obvious conduit for all that information. Some of that prototype information material is available online for free while other resources (books, CDs, DVDs) comes at cost.
Given all that the railroads contributed to the building of any nation, it would be a dire shame and crime to allow all the historical information about them to die out into obscurity. I'm glad the NYCSHS has finally started to embrace the 21st century so that that sort of thing is minimized.
And, on that note, I'm outta here.

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
The NMRA directory has sections for historical societies.
Some provide models, decals, drawings, etc. for modelers.
