CB&Q Gold box cars
Posted by Hauckra on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 8:41 PM

I know in December of 1966, the Havolock shops got to paint all their box cars that got through their shops in a 24 hour period Gold.  8 box cars got the gold paint, and their 4 of their numbers are 17302, 17786, 61682, & 61417.  Does anyone know of the other 4 box car numbers?

Here is the info straight from the Burlington Bulletin #7, publication of the Burlington Route Historical Society. Check the society's web site for ordering information:

http://www.burlingtonroute.com

To commemorate winning the Railway Progress Institute's Golden Freight Car award for 1966, the Burlington painted one day's output (eight cars) of overhauled XM-32 box cars gold with black lettering in December 1966 at the Burlington's freight car shop in Havelock, Nebraska.

The award was for the most effective promotion of railroad freight traffic in America.

So, I'm looking at the very source mentioned above.  It does NOT mention the "other" numbers.

However, I believe the OP is in error with the number "61682".  There is a photo of CB&Q 60682.  I think that would be the correct number.  There are also photos of the other three numbers that the OP mentions.
