Reading Railroad Yellow and Green Paint Scheme
Posted by Charlie Conway on Sunday, March 23, 2014 2:00 AM

Can anyone tell me when the Reading began to replace the olive drap paint scheme with the yellow and green scheme on locomotives and cabooses?

Thanks!

The first locos in that scheme were the GP30s in, I think, 1962.

The first units to be delivered in the yellow were the GP30's in 1962.  All new units bought after that (until the GP39-2, GP40-2 and MP15's) were delivered in yellow and green.  Over the years various olive units were repainted in  yellow and green, except the AS16's which remained olive to the end.  No F units were painted yellow, except a pair of the FP7's were painted SEPTA white with red and blue in the late 1970's.

Thanks, Dave

Your info is very helpful.  I am working on a model of a Reading GP-7 circa 1968, and I would like to finish it in the yellow and green scheme.  It seems this would be plausible.

Charlie, Dale Woodland's "Reading Diesels, Volume1" has several photos of GP7s in the yellow  and green scheme.  I don't think all finished their careers that way though.
