anyone having information on actual colors for this period, and source of same, or formula to make them would be appreciated. have decaling but need actual color scheme.

It seems there was an article on New York Central tug boats in the NYCSHS Central Headlight in the past couple of years. I'll check through some of my recent back issues and see what I can find out for you. My guess is that they would have been a boxcar red or similar.

Gidday, Am unable to confirm the actual time that these colour schemes were in in use, but as has been pointed out before, by others regarding railroad paint schemes, as a money saver, railroads only repainted their existing fleet as required, not on the introduction of a new paint scheme. Hope however that someone can be more specific.

As noted, the New York Central System Historical Society's Central Headlight has had several articles in the past year or so on NYC's tugboats, barges, and harbor operations, including the current issue. From what I recall, the green scheme as on the tugboat pic I posted earlier would be the standard scheme for NYC tugs and barges etc. from at least the 1910's-20's until the early 1960's.

A New York Central tugboat was featured in the Barbara Streisand movie Funny Girl. There are a few scenes of the tugboat in the You Tube video titled:

There is some nice footage of the tugboat in the film and if I recall correctly, the colors were pretty good.

And of course, who can forget the 4-4-0 on the central's Hudson River line that was featured in Hello Dolly. Though, that open-sided coach was a bit hard to believe.
