carstens packing company

To All: I found some info on Carstens Packing Company. It was the largest meat packing company on the West Cost of the  USA. Plants were located in Tacoma, Seattle & Spokane, Washington. They packaged beef, ham, sausage, lamb, pork, veal and other meat products. In the 1930's they served 2000 stores in the West. Now I need to find a photo of their reefers.  Yours, Elvin

My husbands family owned Carstens Meat Packing. He has a ton of pictures and info on the company. I don't know what it has to do with the railroad though, can someone explain that to me?

Kdurant,

Welcome To The Forums. You are replying to a three year old Thread, but what he was looking for was a picture of a refrigerator boxcar, called, ''Reefer'' that was painted and owned by Carsten's Packing Co. similar to how the trucks they owned were painted.

My grandfather actually worked for Carstens in Spokane in the early part of the 20th century.  I know this post is a few years old, but I'd be very interested in photographs if there's any way to see them!  thanks.

If you want to see some very well-done modelling, there is a thread on Carsten's reefers HERE.  It also includes a link (in the second line of the first post) to the original build, which was impressive in its own right.
