B&O GP9 paint color
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 1:51 PM
Can anyone tell me what color to paint my LL P2K GP9's so they match the ones LL produced (blue with gold stripe). I came across a great deal and purchased six and need to paint them but do not want them to be a different shade of blue that the LL GP's I currently have. So, has anyone painted any of these and can give me their paint formula that matches LL's color? Thanks

Ken,
Check out www.trainweb.org/chessiephotos, If you model chessie as well as B&O, C&O will will find quite a comprehensive colletion of photos covering at least 90% of units up to the chessie system. Most units in the roster will show previous paint schemes. Great for detailing . As far as the macthing P2K paint, try Floquil C&O or B&O Royal blue. The yellow should be matched to the color on the decal set for lettering and heralds. Railbox yellow is close. Remember, the only time that 2 engines had identical paint were the day they rolled out of the shop- it was all downhill from there. Even slight weathering will hide any variations in shade or color.

Bob,
Thanks for the reply. You make a valid point about the variations or shades of blue. I do plan on weathering my engines in time so I will keep this in mind. Thanks.
