Probably one is common, one throws the turnout one way, and the last throws the turn out the other way. I'd suggest getting a basic MRR wiring book somewhere.

I am very new to this, but I have a hopefully a simple question. I am going to install switches on my layout. The switches on the layout have 3 wires to them, why three wires?
