Hi,
I hope to begin buildingmy new 4x8 Oklahoma, Mexico, and Gulf layout today. since this is my first layout and I am only 11 I think it will be a challenge. I had on question though. I want to evenualy build a small removable extinsion that can be put away when not in use. how should I build it?

I would consider a fold-down extension with 2 folding legs like on a card table. This would help keep your rails aligned when it is up. If you are planning large structures on the extension, then I would try something else.

You could also attach the extension with door hinges. Door hinges are fairly easy to remove and they are commonly found and easy to install.

Look up how the NTRK folks do their modules and treat your extension like a module. You can modify it to fit your needs and scale, since your is a dedicated module. In general try to have straight tracks across the joint.
Enjoy

If you're having fun, you're doing it the right way.
