If you have broadband you can use Google Earth to find your favorite tracks and follow them where ever they go [:D]
It really is amazing. Tip: use your mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out.

Been there, tried that, and got a message that Google Earth is no longer available for download because it is only in early Beta testing and is offline. Try again in a week or so.

If you would prefer a printed copy, you can purchase maps from the U.S. Geological Survey that are derived from satellite imagery. I found one of Arizona that is around 5 feet square. At that scale, it is easy to follow rail lines across the state.
