Lionel Fastrack Switches

I am a newbe in 3 rail. I just purchased several fastrack remote switches for a 8 x 12 layout. My problem is the switches only have 6 ft cords and they are not long enough to reach my control panel. Can I cut these wires and splice addtional wire or will this ruin the switch ?

you can splice the wire in as long as they are not tremedously long wires...there is a resistance in wiring that can drop the voltage if the splice wiring is too long...use a wire that is equal to or bigger than the wiring for the turnout...chuck

Thanks a lot Chuck.

At $60 bucks a piece - I figured that would be a very painful learning expeience if it coulnd't be done.

Doc..I have spliced 6 Fastrack switches and gone as far as 14 feet...using all 16 ga wire....you will need to splice 4 wires at the switch... AND ...4 wires at the control panel end if you run the switch controller wire down thru a control board....each switch( 4 Wires) needs 8 wire nuts(Blue work good) or similar.........Also search the web for fastrack dealers and you can get the remote switches for 38 or 39 bucks...dan
