Just do a Google on "block occupancy detection". That'll give you plenty of info
on that subject. There are different approaches on train detection out there.

I couldn't find plans to build an N scale signal, so I put it together going by what
information I could find, mostly for HO signals.
I'll put up a webpage on how to build a signal as soon as I have the time.

I hope that this article might inspire some other N scalers to build their own

For about a $1 for material a piece, it's worth putting them together yourself I think.

I'll probably go with block occupancy detection to drive the signals.

Ok,

here are some pictures of the first signal that I put together, with a
red/green LED. Still needs to get painted though.
It wasn't as easy as I thought, but it all came together in the end.
Visible height is 1.5" base to top.

Hi everyone.

Since I couldn't find any N scale signals for under $13, I decided to scratchbuild
some myself. Something like this: http://www.sodigi.com/ns1052.gif

My question: what is the propper height for a standard searchlight signal?
I couldn't find any kind of specs regarding the dimensions of such signal anywhere.
If you have a source to that, or have bought a signal and can share how tall it is,
that would be great.

Also, if you have scratchbuild a signal before, maybe you can share some tips.

I have the copper and styrene tubing, washers and styrene sheets ready to go.
LEDs are on their way.
