My new decoder-is it working correctly?

I just installed my first DCC decoder. It is an MRC D13SR hard wired to an Athearn F7A BB loco. Wow, couldn't believe how simple and quick that is to do. I have never soldered wires so small. Anyway, I don't have my DCC unit yet, so after installing the decoder, I put it on my DC layout (per instructions) and gave it a nudge. Everything works, but no matter which way I turn the throttle, it moves forward-no reverse. I think this is correct because now the decoder is controlling it, and without a DCC command, it will only run forward, right? Before I screw up something, I thought I would ask all you experts. Also the headlight is very dim. Is this normal also? <br />Tim
