Cutting Magic Water?
Posted by Mario1 on Monday, March 23, 2015 8:08 AM

Hi All

I have a couple of structures and wodden trestle bents in Magic Water that saved from the old layout that  Id like to place on the new layout. My question is has anybody tried to cut, saw magic water? If so how does it look?

Thanks

Mario

I believe Magic Water is a form of epoxy that becomes very hard when set.  I doubt you will be able to cut or saw it without causing a lot of damage.

I have not tried it.  A friend did and found that the hard product tends to shatter, creating veins in his creek that look like a pane of glass hit by a rock.  If there was a way to support it tightly perhaps this would not happen.  If you have some Magic Water left in the package it might almost be worth while to do a test pour and try cutting it (presumably a cutting wheel in a Dremel?).

You may have some luck w/ using an oscilating/ multitool to cut out the bents. cut as close to the structure as possible. Once free, cutting. carving or possible breaking w/o damaging might work. Never tried it, but the type of product may become more brittle if frozen. Could experinent by placing in the freezer to see if pliers may crack it and separate the bond to the structure. sawcuts from razor saw first may help the fracture. If you plan to reuse and place in water again, maybe any remnants of the water may not show in a new pour.
