Looking for pics of a 1930's era industrial area for a backdrop, don't know yet if I will project and paint or just cut and paste but having trouble finding the right pic. It needs to be mid distance and could be near the docks as long as that area is off to the left side and no sckscrapers in the background unless they can jut be cut out without it looking like something was cut out. Too many of the pics I have found are like the Manhatten skyline, not the right look.
Rrebell,
I had the same problem. I settled on Walther's Instant Horizon's. Mixed and matched and cut out pieces from 949-711 Freight Yards, 949-712 Hotel/Business and 949-713 The Docks. The parts that did not fit in, I covered with the background building that was in front of it. Did not come out bad at all. Take a look at those three and see if you can use them. They are set up close and to medium distance to my eye.
Take Care!

Try looking for photos of Detroit from the Detroit River. The waterfront was heavily industrialized, and had a lot of railroad action in the 1930s.

You may also have seen these scenes from Scenic Express (I think they are also available elsewhere). The skys are not consistent colors so I cut out the sky on several of these so I could past them adjacent to each other.

Modeling HO with a transition era UP bent
Needs to be from a non conventional site as most of the Walther's ect., don't fit the bill.
