FVR Update / Farm and Orange Tree
Posted by NP01 on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 9:56 PM

Instead of creating more pinkscapes for my trains to run through, I worked on adding a farm. Little sago  balls (tropical starchy plant product) dipped in orange color attached to a woodland scenics tree:

I thought if I glued jute twine string to the foam base and cover it with plaster cloth it might create a nice plowed field. Unfortunately the thing came out too shiny inspite of many attempts to flatten out the colors. Still looks ok for a first try I think:

Looks really good, What I like about model railroading, is that most of us are related to Mcgyver, we're always comming up with some new ways to do things and save some $!

Add some irrigation equipment and it will look like a plowed, watered field.  You could put a thin trickle of Envirotex in the low parts and they would look like water-filled ditches.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Great idea! will totally mask the "shiny" look because it will feel wet ... ! I wonder if woodland scenics realistic water will do the same trick or the drops will disperse too much... any thoughts?
