They did one I really liked using threaded bar stock as the vertical supports.

They did one I really liked using threaded bar stock as the vertical supports. 

And it really works well on several levels (pun not intended).  Adjustments and changes are much easier.

I think the hardest part of building a helix is hiding its entrance.
