Stay away from the Prodigy. I bought one and after reading the instructions and seeing what it really was, I took it back. I now have the DIGITRAX Zephyer and love it. I have had some problems with faulity decoders, but both Digitrax and Soundtraxx have replaced them with no questions asked.
I would suggest that you go to the following web site www.loystoys.com and do some reading about the systems. I have called Fred at Loys several times for help, and even though I did not buy my system from them, they always help me.
Good Luck and avoid problems and stay away from MRC.

The Atlas Master system, too, cannot address the functions for a sound system. I don't have any experience with the MRC, but five out of six MRC decoders I purchased were bad. I don't know why MRC is sullying their reputation by marketing such cheap, no good junk as their so-called DCC system.

John;
Go with anything
except
the MRC system if you are interested in controlling more functions on a locomotive.
Bachmann will be offering a DCC system soon, made for them by Lenz, like the Atlas system.
MRC's boosters and auto reversers are fine, but they did not provide the system with capability to control the full set of features described by the NMRA standards. BLI, Lionel and Atlas are using QSI systems in some/all of thier locomotives. The MRC system cannot address all of the functions.
I have Digitrax, choosen because that is what the club I belong to used, and I could use the same throttle (DT400R) at the club and at home. I would have gone with Lenz or NCE if that is what the club was using.

With decoders, the more you pay the more you get. All decoders will work (but will they fit is another question).
Look at Lenz (Atlas) or Digitrax. Don't get the Prodigy. The first two are expandable, the Prodigy isn't. Rumours abound that MRC is coming out with an updated and fully functional DCC system, but my suggestion is go with one of the two most popular systems in North America - Digi or Lenz.

I am about to start building my first train layout (HO). I was wondering what kind of DCC systems would be good for beginners like me. I was think about the MRC Prodigy system but I would like to know if there are any other good systems out there. I would also like to know what kind of decoders I should use.
