Is anyone familiar with the IHC Skywheel, ferriswheel etc.
WHAT is the best way to get these things to run smoothly without constantly stopping and running so rough. I tried some oil, grease abd nothing seems to make them run better. I know they are a cheapy item but surely they work better than I have been able to get them to.
I emailed IHC ref any brass gears or something other than plastic and what did they write back.......NOTHING....I forgot I bought the stuff so they like others no longer care once they got your money.

I've seen videos of IHC carnival rides used on O scale layouts, and they ran smoothly, so I would assume that the motors were changed to something better. One O gauge layout, in particular, at the Choo Choo Barn in Pennsylvania has practically everything motorized. Your best bet would be to experiment with gear drive motors that are available from All Electronics and other surplus dealers at reasonable prices. You may even be able to get by with one of these motors driving two or three different carnival rides.

Smooth operation requires good allignment and gear ratios. i would disconnect the drive and see if there is a bind or rubbing area in the basic ride. That may be sufficient to fix the problem. Then I would go to a geared drive or belt drive taht allwos the motor to develop more torque or RPMS. The first is obviously cheaper.

If you want good carnival rides, buy Faller. Walthers carries them, just look in the catalog.

I'd suggest the Faller ones as well - expensive, but good. Just don't over-do them as it can look like a model carnival with a RR attached!
