My experience was that I thought I would save money and build my own power supply. I ran across an article in a mag (can't remember which one now) and took it to Radio Shack to buy the required supplies. When I priced it out, it was very close to a commercial power pack (I was looking to build one for DCC). I bought the commercial version.
