Yes, definitely go with the track layout first. Get a good wiring book to. I've done a few layouts early on where my switches didn't work because of the way I had them set up and I've shorted things out. Try to go with a tried and true track setup scenario. You'll have a lot more fun after getting thru that setup phase, then let your layout fall into place and you can run a few trains while modeling. <br />
