DCC Reverse loops
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, November 22, 2003 7:47 PM
Hello everyone ! I'm new to the hobby & recently built the "Chippewa Central" from MR's 5 compact track plans. I'm running the MRC Prodegy DCC system with an MRC Auto Reverse Loop on each of the two reverse loops. The problem I'm having is when my loco crosses into a rev. section at one end, all is fine. When it hits the insulated gaps at the end where the "auto rev. loop" is attached, everything shorts out. I'm having this problem on both rev. loops. I've checked the wiring & it's all the same as the diagram in the book. Should there be an "auto rev. loop" at both ends of the loop ????? I guess I'm just lost .
Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated because I'm ready to return to the basic oval !!!!!

Thank you,
Mark

The reverse loops should have insulated joiners or rail gaps in both rails at both ends of the reversing loop.

Your reverse loop should contain a section longer than your train which has double insulated joints at each end of it.
If you are running only one train at a time, you could use the same reversing module for both reverse loops.
What is supposed to happen is that a train enters the reversing section and if the module is set the wrong way a tiny short happens and the module flips over to eliminate the short. It flips again when the short happens on exiting the reversing section.
