Helix Scenick'd & Showcased?
Posted by FJ and G on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 7:02 AM
Helixes are usually hidden. At best, they are places to stage trains. At worst, they are a lot of wasted space and a place that takes forever for the trains to emerge.

Has anyone ever showcased their helix?

Better yet, has anyone ever scenicked one?

I have not but I did see an article or photo on a "ruptured helix" where one level sticks out more than the others and is scenicked.
There was an article in MRP about a fellow who models the Norfolk & Western in N scale (you might recall the article more because he had tenders custom cast so he could put power units in them so his 2-8-8-2s could handle prototype loads). His helix was beautiful -- precision built, very large, and painted an attractive gray color. It would be worth a layout tour to see such fine craftsmanship (and his real scenery was very very nice as well).
