Cheaper Trees

I'm still building my landscape and I'm trying to put more trees on it but the trees cost almost £5 for 3. Is there anywhere I can buy some cheaper trees cos i woulkd like a lot?

I have a pretty fair idea of how much five pounds equates to in American dollars. Since I'm not all that familiar with what's available where you live, it's hard to suggest what you should buy. However, it sounds like you are buying ready made trees and that can be very costly.


It's always cheaper to make your own trees. Either through a kit if you have to, or by scouring the countryside for the appropriate sized flora and fauna for armitures and making your own from scratch. Some of the different forums have areas that have information on tree building. It's really a trade off, you save time by purchasing ready made trees but you are paying someone else to do the labor.

Another way to add the effect of trees, especially in the distance would be to use lichen (which I personally do not care for) and cover it with ground cover materials. I saw someone do this for a z scale layout and it looked OK. It gave him the effect of many trees in the background without going broke.

But to answer your question, I'm not sure of a cheaper source for ready made trees.

I assume you live in England? Before the hobby industry took off over here we made, among other things, trees. Go to a flower shop and find a branchy common dryed plant and make your own using ground foam and or flock. Pine trees can be made with scissors, bottle brushes, and green paint. I can't understand though why trees would cost so much? I use lots of Faller and Busch trees and they are made in Germany. 100 pine trees cost me $29USD at full retale from Busch and 50 Faller trees were $19.99 USD. Maybe you need to power up the mini and drive to Germany and buy them? That's the best advice I can give you from here.

My name john and i went to the local craft store and found some ferns that look like pine bows. I then took a dowl rod and scratched it it up to reperesent bark and painted it . Then i glued the branches on using tacky glue they turned out very realistic looking.
