Alright, I've been working on this myself. Here is how I'm planning on wiring a handmade crossing for DCC. Note the use of a double pole, double throw (DPDT) switch that will be used to select the route. My understanding is a DCC autoreversing unit could be used in its place. the pics show "neutral", as well as each route being selected.
