DCC and DC power
Posted by claycts on Friday, December 23, 2005 9:17 AM
Have (3) 5 amp Digitrax power units to handle the 3 power boosters (2)100 and (1) 150.
Want to add power for DC operation AND handle the 145 turnouts, 3 turntabels and 135 building lights PLUS auto signals and 5 auotmation items (Bridge, saw mill etc)
Is the MRC tech series the answer or an E BAY special a better idea.
The DC loop will run the older engines and novelty items (1948 RDC model). the loop is 70 ft around and all set and wired for DCC with and isolation switch for dc operation.
Thanks for your help and Merry Christmas

With that much stuff I would add several smaller power units rather than one monster one. Easier to trouble shoot, more flexible, and you won't have one point of failure. Not to mention, not welding things when it shorts. Lights in buildings and scenery automation can run off of very cheap power supplies. That is the sort of thing I use old "tyco" toy transformers or old MRC gold boxes for.

Follow up!
Run a 110v supply under the taable to a cut off for those packs? They will be scattered all over 1800sq ft of room.
