I have an N scale layout with about a dozen or so turnouts. Each one has a red, green and black wires coming from the motors. How do you wire these up and do I need a seperate power supply to activate them??

The black wire is the ground, or common, connection, and goes to one of the AC terminals on your power pack. The red and green wires must go through separate push-button switches and then to the other AC terminal on the power pack. You then pu***he button connected to the red or green wires to throw the turnout. After you wire the first one, you'll know which way they move according to which button is pressed, and you can then wire all of the others in the exact same manner.

You didn't say which brand of turnout you use but I would guess that regardless, the button attached to the green wire will set the switch points to the straight track and the red will set the switch points to the diverging track. I wire my turnouts so the normal routing is wired to the left button (I use Atlas switch controls). I would recommend you adopt a standard wire of wiring your turnouts so it will be easy to remember.
