What's the Length Converstion?

I'm new to the hobby and I dont know how to convert real feet to HO scale. Is there a formula for this?

HO scale is 1:87, so 87 is your divisor. Keep in mind, however, that you have to retain your units. Dividing real feet by 87 will give your the HO dimension in feet also. If you want your answer in inches (the typical HO unit) , you have to multiply by 12 (12 inches to the foot). Thus, 87 feet becomes 1 foot, or 12 inches.
