what is the tipical height for a HO 2 story house?

Depends on what you consider typical. But let's try some basic dimensions and you can adjust from there. Let's allow

3 feet - foundation
1 foot - first floor framing
8 feet - first floor walls
1 foot - second floor framing
8 feet - second floor walls
6 feet - roof framing / peak
-----
27 feet total height (approx)

@ 1:87 = 3.75"high

There's a starting point for you. You can adjust or change from there.

That seems to be a perfectly reasonable approach, Ed. I placed a measuring tape from the ground level (lawn) to the apex of Kate's Cottage (one of two built-ups that I broke down and purchased) roof, and found it to be 4 3/4".
