is this crazy to try? or might affect running

withthe Woodland scenics 4in riser, I have them along the back wall, I thought about trying to squueze a passing siding on them along the mainline.

Now if I use roadbed, I believe they are too close.
if I use the road bed & not tear it apart and just lay it down as a base (2 pieces) with alittle overhang I think I can do the 2 tracks. But think with the little overhang, somehwere down the road it will affect the running

or don't lay any raodbed on the foam and then try it.. but think it might be close still..

I think I am trying to pu***he issue & then have a headache...

I wouldn't do it. I think you'll be sacrificing reliability down the road. What I did with my first layout was cut foam board for the risers (much cheaper than WS) and use the WS grade risers to change grades between them. This gives you the added bonus of being able to vary the base on the riser and also to easily shape the terrain afterward.
Kids are great for many reasons. Not the least of which is to buy toys "for them."

Are you working in N scale? WS risers aren't too wide to bigin with and I figured you might be in N scale.

Consider this option if in N scale: use the risers, but adjust your starting and ending heights to accomodate a surface layer of 1" foam (blue or pink). You can cut a piece wide enough for a main and siding plus a little for shoulders. Just glue the piece on top of the risers.

I don't think this would work in larger scales because the 1" foam piece would overhang the risers too much. A small overhang is okay, especially in N scale, but would probably sag with anything larger and heavier unless you added outrigger pieces.

Hope this helps.
