1st WELCOME to the forum.
A company called FALLER that makes a road system, maybe this will help you. Good luck.

It sounds to the Old Dog like you may be reinventing the wheel, and you may be developing a square one!

The Old Dog would suggest looking at slot car racers in the the appropriate scale. If repainted and run at slow speed, the might fill your needs better with less effort.

Have fun

Check EBAY a club member found a MODEL MOTORING set for $10.00 plus shipping and got enough good stuff to do a 4x8 city the worked. TH eold dog is correct and this old boy must agree. Option is to PAINT, weather the road surface and it will kill the toy look.

Worth a try but just a few things to keep in mind.

Steering: Even if the cars have some sort of steering they must follow the center line or they will loose magnetic contact.

Construction: The street or road and all under the layout parts must be non-magnetic. This means all drive parts (chain, pulleys. etc).

Cars: All cars should be extremely free wheeling. Since the only connection between the drive and the car is magntic any binding of the wheels or dirt a wheel passes over will make the car appear as if it is pulled by a rubber band.

Look into the systems above (Faller, etc). I have seen some working systems that use a slot in the road and a pin to pull the cars. Hard to hide the slot.
